This program is part of the International Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centres' teaching.
It is a nonprofit organization founded by Swami Vishnudevananda to spread the teachings of Yoga and Vedanta worldwide.
Upon the instruction of his guru, Swami Sivananda of Rishikesh, India, Swami Vishnudevananda headed to the West and began teaching throughout the United States in 1957. He established the first Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centre in Montreal, Canada, in 1959. There are now almost 80 Sivananda locations (ashrams, yoga centres, and affiliated centres) around the world.
The Yoga Teachers' Training course was established due to Swami Vishnudevananda’s vision for world peace. In 1967 he taught the first Yoga Teachers' Training Course in the West. Since then, over 25,000 teachers worldwide have graduated from this comprehensive training course. The Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centres are recognized worldwide for teaching yoga authentically, preserving its purity and tradition, which dates back several thousand years.
The goal of this training programme is to produce qualified and inspiring yoga teachers who are able to draw on their own practice and personal discipline in imparting the yoga experience to others.
Swami Vishnudevananda retained India’s traditional Gurukula teaching system in which students and teachers live together in an ashram (centre for yoga and meditation). Through the direct contact with experienced teachers, the student’s day-to-day life during the course is transformed into a learning experience. Students advance both physically and mentally and enjoy a comprehensive yoga experience, which they can later transmit to their own students. In efforts to create the most favourable conditions possible, this training is offered as an intensive course in an ashram.
The headquarters is the Sivananda Ashram Yoga Camp

Course languages
The course will be offered in English with simultaneous translation into Thai and Japanese.
The Sivananda Yoga approach
Yoga teachers are not just trained in the asanas. While asanas are an integral part of classical Hatha Yoga, it is the combination of the asanas with ethical values, pranayama (breathing exercises) and meditation that enables a comprehensive experience of Hatha Yoga.
The Sivananda approach to training yoga teachers believes that students should understand and experience the four main systems of yoga: Besides the focus on Hatha Yoga, the Sivananda yoga teacher training programme introduces students to the theory and practice of Raja Yoga (control over the mind), Karma Yoga (selfless activity), Jnana Yoga (yoga philosophy) and Bhakti Yoga (transformation of emotions into devotion).
Why immersion course for 4 weeks?
The benefits of yoga are fully experienced through immersion in the yogic lifestyle and a combination of repeated, guided group practice and inspirational theoretical lessons, offered in a positive, uplifting environment. Among the many benefits that students report are greater self-awareness, a sense of connection, a newfound sense of self–discipline, enhanced self–esteem, improved power of concentration and increased strength and flexibility.
